About Rio Celeste

If you're planning a visit to stunning Rio Celeste, Costa Rica, here's everything you need to plan the perfect visit, where you can admire the azure rivers in Tenorio Volcano National Park. The story, told by locals, says that the Rio Celeste took on stunning colors when God dipped his paintbrush into the river as he painted the sky. Scientifically speaking, the color occurs when two different rivers of clear water meet, and a certain type of mineral coated with silicon, oxygen and aluminum remains suspended in the flow. The size, suspension and reflection of sunlight create this vibrant blue color in the water.
